 Acne: Problems and Solutions

A holistic approach to acne and oily skin is very important. Acne can be a stressful condition and very bothersome. Much of acne can be caused by poor diet, and using products that contain too many strong chemicals in them, thereby affecting the normal pH of your skin causing spasms of oil to be released and then not released, so your skin is unbalanced. So sometimes oily, sometimes dry. The oil glands are confused because these factors are throwing them off balance. Synthetic, chemically-based products can be too harsh on the skin, drying out the oil glands and telling them to produce more, more, more.

The goal of Greenridge Organics products is to get your skin back to a healthy balance and control. The longer you use our products exclusively, the more balanced your skin will become. Since our ingredients are all plant-based, they are easily recognizeable by your skin, and your skin knows what to do with them. It utilizes the vitamins and minerals, leaving your skin healthy and clear. While transitioning to this point, you will find a number of products
that will help you ease this stressful time. A few of our favorites are: Lemon Tea Tree Toner, Blemish Banisher, Patchouli Soap, Face Petals Cleanser, Tea Tree Cleansing Pads, Synergy Day Serum, and Face Petals Brightening Scrub.

Here are a number of steps you can take to help reduce inflammation, while still detoxing your skin free from chemicals to prevent future outbreaks.

1. Keep facial skin as clean as possible throughout the day. For your AM skincare routine, start by washing with Face Petals Brightening Scrub and/or Patchouli Soap and following with a dry off with a clean towel. Keep fresh, clean towels in the bathroom at all times, to prevent yesterday's bacteria from returning onto your skin. Follow with Lemon Tea Tree Toner, and then Chamomile Rose Cream. Use Blemish Banisher for spot treatments. For PM Skincare routine, cleanse skin before bed with Face Petals Brightening Scrub and/or Patchouli Soap. Follow with Lemon Tea Tree Toner or Tea Tree Cleansing Pads. If you are away from home often, the Tea Tree Cleansing Pads work great to help keep skin clean and fresh when you are on the go. I like to keep these in my car for a quick pick-me-up.

2. Use clean bedsheets and pillow cases, washing once to twice a week to prevent oils from hair and skin from getting onto your sheets then onto your skin. Do not use dryer sheets as they are the #1 cause of skin dermatitis, and be sure to use a "Free and Clear" or all natural detergent like Seventh Generation.

3. Wash hands frequently throughout the day. We touch our face more often than we realize.

4. Try not to touch or pop any blemishes. If you receive a facial, let the esthetician know NOT to do any "extractions." This is a nice term for when they pop blemishes. This will cause scarring and future breakouts, no matter what they tell you. When the skin is opened it allows bacteria to freely exit, but then entering other areas on your face, spreading bacteria and causing more infections. It's a nasty cycle, but the good news is that you can break that cycle now. Even when you are very very careful, a small amount of bacteria is all it takes to spread the acne. It may be hard at first but usually when you stop touching them it really makes a difference.

5. Try to eliminate soda from the diet. It is so bad for the skin. Also, try to eliminate foods with artificial preservatives, and artificial colorants. They can actually clog pores. You hear it everyday, but drinking lots of water keeps the skin clean and looking great. Try adding a slice of lemon or cucumber to your water for extra vitamins. A clean diet (lots of fruits and veggies) makes for clean skin.

6. A lot of the harsh chemical products for acne on today's market solve problems in the short term, but not in the long term. They provide a toxic buildup of chemicals inside your skin's epidermal layer, and prevent the skin's natural sebum from adjusting to the levels of natural oils your skin needs.

7. Synthetic cleansers are filled with chemicals that seep deep down into your epidermis, clogging your pores and confusing your oil glands on how much sebum to produce naturally. This results in dry spots, excessive oil, and breakouts. Your skin is confused, can you blame it? To remedy this, we suggest switching over to our natural skincare line of products. But be patient. Do not expect overnight results when your skin has been abused by chemically-derived ingredients for a period of time, possibly decades. Stick with it, and in the long run your skin will benefit tremendously and look its best. If you have questions please don't hesitate to contact us.
